Cellmark offers an alcohol testing service to test for chronic excessive alcohol consumption.
As a minimum we recommend our standard package which includes both Hair and Blood sample testing.
EtG/FAEE tests measure the levels of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and four fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) in hair to aid in the evaluation of ‘chronic excessive alcohol consumption’. This can only be carried out on head hair and we require a sample with a minimum length of 3cm. If both drugs and alcohol testing are requested, a further sample, again minimum length 3cm, is needed due to the different analytical techniques carried out in the laboratory for these tests.
LF/CDT blood testing - The Liver Function Test (LF) analyses the levels of a number of enzymes produced in the liver. The Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT) test is used to identify alcohol usage over a shorter period of time than the LFT.
In our enhanced package we offer an additional service covering the detection of EtG and ethyl sulphate (EtS) in urine. This test offers greater sensitivity and accuracy for determination of recent (in the previous 48 hours) alcohol consumption.
We strongly recommend that hair, blood and urine tests are used in conjunction for the assessment of 'chronic excessive' alcohol consumption - our trained samplers are able to collect all sample types at the same appointment. In addition to our testing we would also always recommend that you seek a clinical assessment by a medical professional.
